What To Consider When Buying A Wedding Dress

With all of the details you have to choose for your wedding, your dress will be the one thing you will probably pay the most attention to. It has to be absolutely perfect in so many ways, because it's something you will be wearing all night, a lot of focus is placed on what kind of dress the bride will wear, you will see it in all of the photos you will look back at for years to come, and most importantly, it will set the tone for how you will feel on your wedding day. You want to look beautiful, so you will feel beautiful, and you will enjoy yourself. There are so many wedding dresses to choose from whether you are opting for a simpler, more classic look, or you want to go all out and be modern, and stylish. Every bride is different in shape, size, style and personality, so each bride will look, and feel her best in different dresses.
For some brides, price is a factor when picking out a wedding dress. Some brides have a dress in mind and they will pay any price to obtain it. Others have a style in mind, but will keep their options open in order to stay within a certain budget. Depending on what direction you're going in, you'll want to start your search with boutiques or stores that stay true to your budget. A hugely popular choice for many brides on a budget is David's Bridal.
They have stores located all over the country, and you can order items online from them. They also have an 'in-house' alteration department that is really affordable, and you can even buy all your accessories, shoes, and undergarments there if you'd like. David's Bridal offers designer gowns at very reasonable prices, some as low as $99 during their sales. If you're willing to spend a little more money on your dress, you can get a gorgeous gown that will still be well under the high end designer prices. The staff there is exceptionally helpful and honest and can assist any bride in picking out what dress will work for them. Some brides find great deals online, but a word of advice would be to make sure you're very careful if purchasing a gown online.
There's usually a bargain-type of wedding boutique in every city, so I would avoid online shopping at all costs if possible. Your wedding dress is not something you want to take a chance on. If you want the dress of your dreams, and that means you will be hitting the designer gown market, there are bridal boutiques that carry the most up to date wedding dress styles. Many of them also do alterations, so that will be one less thing to find on your own. It's really not necessary to go overboard with your dress however. Of course it's a splurge, and it's for a very important day, but keep in mind you only wear it once, by the end of the night it will be dirty, and the bottom will be torn up a bit from all that dancing. You can go ahead any buy that designer gown for $5000, but you can probably find a gown very similar to it, for a much lower price. That leaves you with extra money that you could use for additional touches to the rest of your big day.
Never forget the comfort factor. You will be wearing this dress all evening; as you walk down the aisle in front of everyone, during dinner, while you're dancing during the reception, and during all of the pictures. Pick a dress that you feel comfortable in, that fits your body type and that when altered to your shape, won't require you to pull it up, or adjust it every 2 minutes. You want to look like perfection at your wedding, and people will notice if you are fidgeting with your dress all night. You'll notice later on when you look at your photos and see yourself fixing your appearance throughout the night. While a good alteration is important for your comfort, it also makes sense to pick a dress that makes sense for your body type.
If you are smaller on top or extremely gifted in that area, you might not be most comfortable in a strapless dress that doesn't hug you in all of the right places. A halter-style dress or something with thicker straps will give you more support and ensure your comfort. Some dresses have a very fitted, boned bodice that might not suit you for your big day. You want to be able to move, and bend at the waist normally in your gown. A certain dress may catch your eye, and be very beautiful, but don't make a purchase based on looks alone, and assume you will be able to tolerate any discomforts the day of your wedding.
Detail is important when choosing your gown. You want your dress to fit the tone of your wedding. If a simpler, more classic affair is what you've planned, an overly beaded, detailed, full gown may not fit into the evening appropriately. Pick an equally simple and classic gown to match. Some brides look ravishing in a fuller, tulle skirt, while others just look plain silly, and get lost in the dress.
Don't pick something that doesn't fit who you are. You may be a lace kind of girl, or maybe ruffles fit your style. Don't choose a big bow in the back of your dress, if it's not something that fits your dress, your wedding, or more importantly: You. Every gown has different detail, and the dress that is right for you will be fitted in the right areas and it will have beading, satin, or lace in the right curves of your body. Don't go overboard with detail on your wedding dress. Of course you want to look great, and have your dress stand out from all others, but keep in mind, you're the bride, and all eyes will be on you anyhow. You can't lose with keeping it simple. Your dress will end up fitting in with whatever changes you end up making to the wedding day.
Color doesn't sound like something you would pay much attention to when choosing a wedding dress, but keep in mind, white isn't your only option anymore. Some brides plan the colors of their wedding around creams, ivory and earthy tones. There are a lot of really gorgeous dresses that are ivory or cream, and there are a lot of dresses that you can add a bow to that could match the color of your bridesmaid dresses, or the color of your flowers.
There are also a lot of really gorgeous dresses on the market that have color thrown into them whether it be a layer of fabric that peaks out from under the train, or a basic stripe of color around the bust area of a strapless gown. Most of them are very tastefully done, and don't incorporate too much color. You don't want to go overboard with color, but it's a very nice option. It's a great way to throw a modern touch into a classic, simple gown, and to match the rest of the wedding party. If you go for a classic white wedding dress, make sure it is a crisp, pristine shade of white, and not a faded or dull shade.
Size is important. Assuming you are buying your gown from a reputable bridal shop, the employees there will assist you with your final order. Every bride has to have some part of her gown altered before her big day, so don't get discouraged if you won't fit into it right away. Gowns are often made a little longer and a little bigger in certain areas to eliminate the problem of having to add fabric in areas that may be too short or too tight.
It's much easier to remove fabric than it is to add. Depending on what time frame you are ordering your gown, you want to consider you may gain weight, you may lose some, and your weight may even shift into different places. Never buy a gown that fits you like a glove when you try it on. If you find a size that is snug, and fits perfectly in areas like the hips or bust, always order one size bigger. You will need alterations done anyway, so make sure the job won't be more complicated for the seamstress than it needs to be at the point that you have it done.
Most importantly, make sure you love your wedding dress. Even if you're not planning on having an extravagant wedding, there are so many gorgeous simple gowns that you will fall in love with. You may not think you're the type of bride who will put a lot of focus on what kind of dress you are going to buy, but once you start trying on those gowns, you'll be swept away by the fun. There's nothing wrong with putting a limit on what you're going to spend, and it's probably not necessary to go overboard and spend more on your gown than you spent on most of your wedding, but play with some styles, and have a little fun with it. Just try to be practical with what kind of gown you end up picking, and keep important things in mind like the style, the color, the design, and the size.
